It was an absolute joy to be asked by Kevin and Mark to be their St Bart’s Brewery wedding photographer. Located in Smithfield in central London, St Bart’s Brewery is a restaurant, bar and fantastic wedding venue for couples looking for a relaxed and laidback wedding day.
St Barts Brewery is surrounded by some fantastic locations for wedding photos; from the colourful railings of Smithfield market (and their iconic red telephone boxes) to historic alleys and modern shop fronts, there is something for every type of wedding photo.
This wedding really suited my approach to wedding photography as it allowed me capture lots of candid and reportage-style images and intersperse these with some quick and painless group shots and super romantic couple portraits.
Kevin and Mark (who made two gorgeous grooms) opted not to have any images taken of their wedding morning preparations, so I met them and their wedding guests just around the corner from St Barts Brewery to hop on board their specially commissioned wedding bus and travel to their wedding ceremony destination at Islington Town Hall.
I loved photographing the couple and their guests on board as the prosecco flowed and laughter filled both decks.
Islington Town Hall is a popular wedding ceremony venue for couples having a St Bart’s Brewery wedding due to its proximity and its stunning backdrop for ceremony photos. Mark’s sister delivered a beautiful reading and I think the tears, hugs and laughter in these wedding photos says all you need to know about the mood of the ceremony.
Whilst all the guests headed to the front of the building for a good gossip and catch-up, I took the grooms to the stunning upstairs corridor for some romance-infused wedding portraits. This is such a magical space for us to execute wedding photography with the wow factor.
Being a St Barts Brewery wedding photographer doesn’t mean that we don’t take advantage of the other locations and venues you choose for your wedding ceremony; be that stunning archways or boldly coloured upholstery that contrast or compliment your wedding outfits.
After hopping back in the bus for a tour of London with the newlyweds (and yes – more prosecco), we couldn’t let this iconic London vehicle go before grabbing some vibrant confetti shots with all the wedding party
We then popped across the road and used Smithfield Market as a backdrop for the group photos. The bright railings gave us a vibrant look for these images and my go-to plan of knowing all the group shot combinations beforehand really made this process quick and pain-free.
Whilst the guests went inside St Barts for their first look at the venue and to sample some nibbles and beverages, the grooms and I took a tour of the surrounding area to grab some romantic wedding portraits. We made full use of the iconic red telephone boxes, the bold shop front shutters and the historic side streets for an eclectic mix of wedding images.
You wouldn’t know from looking at these photos that both newlyweds were anxious about having their photographs taken, would you?
Later in the day, guests were entertained with a wedding magician who really brought the wow factor to the reception. I took a little break whilst the wedding breakfast was served (no one looks good being photographed eating) and then it was onto the speeches.
Both grooms gave a speech as well as the maid of honour and one of the groom’s dad. They were a mix of humorous and heartfelt and I loved Kevin’s reactions to some of the home truths being spilled!
Finally, the night ended with the cutting of the incredible family-made wedding cake. All-in-all a fabulous day. I loved being a St Barts Brewery wedding photographer and can’t wait for my next booking at this fabulous venue.
