FUN-FILLED LGBTQ+ WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY AT THE ROYAL BERKSHIRE HOTEL
On a sunny September day in 2019 I had the pleasure of travelling to Ascot, to be Nial & Dustin’s Royal Berkshire Hotel wedding photographer and what a special day it was. The Royal Berkshire Hotel prides itself on creating ‘charming weddings’ and this certainly proved to be the case.
The hotel has so many locations for exchanging vows, delivering speeches, and enjoying the perfect wedding breakfast; choose from the Berkshire Suite, the Wentworth room, the Library and the Marlborough room. Alternatively, when the wedding weather gods are smiling down at you, there’s the stunning secret garden.
PHOTOGRAPHING THE GROOM PREPARATIONS AT THE ROYAL BERKSHIRE
Nial and Dustin both chose to get ready at the Royal Berkshire Hotel, but decided not to see each other until the ceremony itself. It was great being able to hop from one floor to the next to capture both grooms getting ready with their best man and maid of honour.
All the usual wedding prep photographs were taken, the rings, outfits, the nervous moments and the laughter.
WEDDING CEREMONY PHOTOGRAPHY IN THE SECRET GARDEN
A string quartet provided the perfect ambience as guest arrived and were seated in the secret garden ready for the ceremony. The pavilion was decorated with white roses and the scene was all set for the arrival of the two grooms. Introduced by the toastmaster, Nial entered the garden first accompanied by his mother, whilst Dustin followed with his maid-of-honour.
It was a very emotional ceremony, and it was clear that both grooms had been on quite a journey to get to this significant moment in their lives. I love capturing wedding photographs of such tender moments and I know these will be cherished forever by the newlyweds and their families.
SHOOTING THE WEDDING GROUP SHOTS
One of the great aspects of being a Royal Berkshire Hotel wedding photographer is having access to the balcony of the top floor suite, which allows you to shoot large group shots from above. Once these were captured, I ventured back down into the stunning grounds to capture some formal and some not-so-formal group shots of the couple’s nearest and dearest.
WEDDING SPEECH PHOTOS IN THE BERKSHIRE SUITE
The wedding speeches at Nial and Dustin’s wedding were varied to say the least. Some were extremely short and to the point, some were lengthy, some were truly emotional whilst others just stopped short of sharing way too much information! There’s always fabulous reportage and candid images captured during this part of the wedding reception, and you can see from the reactions of the couple, that they weren’t quite prepared for certain moments.
WEDDING PORTRAITS IN THE ROYAL BERKSHIRE GROUNDS
We waited until the golden hour to take the wedding portraits and we simply took a really relaxed tour around the grounds of the Royal Berkshire Hotel and stopped where the light was the most magical. We were spoilt for choice for locations, from the beautifully landscaped secret garden to the sun-reflecting pond and even up in the bridal suite.
I never ask my couples to pose to formally during these moments, and much prefer to capture natural emotions in beautifully lit spaces. Nothing is ever too forced as these images show.
